B.A. (Ed.) History

The Bachelor of Arts in Education (History) at Alvan Ikoku Federal University of Education (AIFEU) is designed for aspiring educators who are passionate about understanding the past and shaping the minds of future generations. This program blends rigorous historical study with innovative teaching methodologies, equipping students with the knowledge, analytical skills, and pedagogical expertise needed to excel both in the classroom and beyond.

Course Structure

The B.A. (Ed.) History program spans four years and is carefully structured to provide a comprehensive understanding of history while developing teaching competence. Key features include:

  • Foundation Courses: Introduction to Education, Philosophy of Education, Basic Pedagogy, and Communication Skills.

  • Core History Courses: Nigerian History, African History, World Civilizations, Economic and Social History, and Historical Methods.

  • Teaching Practice: Practical classroom experience through supervised teaching practice in partner schools, allowing students to apply theory in real-world educational settings.

  • Electives & Specializations: Students can explore areas such as Oral History, Cultural Studies, and Historiography, enriching their expertise and academic portfolio.

  • Research Project/Dissertation: In the final year, students undertake a research project, honing critical thinking, analytical reasoning, and scholarly writing skills.

Entry Requirements

To enroll in the B.A. (Ed.) History program, prospective students must meet the following requirements:

  • SSCE/GCE O’Level: A minimum of 5 credits, including English Language, History, and at least two relevant arts or social science subjects.

  • UTME Requirement: Candidates must have chosen History or related arts subjects in their UTME and meet the university’s minimum cutoff score.

  • Direct Entry (for A-Level or ND holders): Credit passes in History and other relevant subjects; candidates may gain advanced standing in the program.
