B.Sc. (Ed.) Home Economics

The Bachelor of Science in Education (B.Sc. Ed.) in Home Economics at Alvan Ikoku Federal University of Education is a dynamic program designed to equip students with practical skills, innovative thinking, and pedagogical expertise in the field of Home Economics. Course Structure

The B.Sc. (Ed.) Home Economics program blends theory, practice, and hands-on experience. Students explore a broad range of subjects designed to foster expertise in nutrition, clothing and textiles, family management, consumer education, and home management.

Key areas of study include:

  • Nutrition and Dietetics – Understanding the science of food, health, and wellness.

  • Clothing and Textiles – Skills in garment construction, textile science, and fashion management.

  • Family Resource Management – Efficient use of resources for sustainable living.

  • Teaching Practice – Hands-on experience in schools to apply educational theories.

Students progress from foundational courses in the first year to specialized and practical courses in the later years, culminating in a research project that develops critical thinking and problem-solving abilities.

Entry Requirements

To apply for the B.Sc. (Ed.) Home Economics program, candidates must meet the following criteria:

  • O’Level Requirements: Five credits in WAEC or NECO, including English Language, Mathematics, Biology, Chemistry, and Home Economics or Food & Nutrition.

  • UTME Requirements: Candidates must sit for the Unified Tertiary Matriculation Examination (UTME) and choose Alvan Ikoku Federal University of Education as their first-choice institution.

  • Post-UTME Screening: Successful candidates will undergo the university’s screening exercise as part of the admission process.
