Professor Chinenye Udeze of the Faculty of Arts has been appointed Deputy Vice-Chancellor (Administration) of Alvan Ikoku Federal University of Education (AIFUE), Owerri. She was elected unanimously by the University Senate, and her appointment was subsequently ratified by the Governing Council on Thursday, November 12, 2025.
Professor Udeze is a distinguished academic and an alumnus of Alvan, having obtained her first degree in Education/Igbo/Linguistics in 1992 from the erstwhile College, which offered the degree programme in affiliation with the University of Nigeria, Nsukka (UNN).
She completed her postgraduate work at the University of Port Harcourt, Rivers State, where she obtained a Master’s degree (MA) in Linguistics and Communication Arts, and her Ph.D. at Nnamdi Azikiwe University, Awka, Anambra State, in 2013, where she obtained her Doctor of Philosophy in Igbo Culture and Civilisation.
Prof. Chinenye Udeze has served the institution in several key capacities, including as Dean, Faculty of Arts; Director, Alvan Volunteers Community Services (AVS); Head, Department of Linguistics and Nigerian Languages; and Deputy Dean, Students’ Affairs. She is presently a member representing the Senate on the Alvan Ikoku Federal University Governing Council.
Her research focus lies in phonology, Igbo Culture, and Anthropology, and she has contributed significantly to national language policy discussions. Throughout her career, Professor Udeze has consistently demonstrated a commitment to academic excellence, institutional governance, and the advancement of research.
The unanimous vote by the Senate underscores the confidence in her vision and ability to help steer the administrative trajectory of the new University. Her appointment, having been ratified by the University Governing Council, is for a specific term of two (2) years and is effective immediately.
Prof. Udeze is happily married with children and grandchildren.
