Professor Stella Ngozi Lemchi was appointed the Acting Vice-Chancellor of Alvan Ikoku Federal University of Education, Owerri in July 2024 by the pioneer Governing Council of the University. She was the 13th substantive and last Provost of Alvan Ikoku Federal College of Education, Owerri. Professor Stella Lemchi holds a Bachelor of Science, Master of Education, and Doctor of Philosophy Degrees in Home Economics, all from the University of Nigeria, Nsukka.

Professor Lemchi is a recipient of several scholarly awards, including the Arthur Nzeribe Scholarship for Undergraduates of Imo State (1988 - 1990), the Federal Government Scholarship Awards to Post-Graduate Students (1992 - 1993), and the Council for Development of Economics and Social Research in Africa (CODESRIA) Award for Thesis Writing for Post-Graduate Studies (1993 - 1994). She also won the Best Conference Paper Award at the 23rd World Congress of the International Federation for Home Economics (IFHE) held in South Korea in 2016.

One of Professor Lemchi's most significant achievements is her work on the development of a new Curriculum for Home Economics education in Nigeria. This curriculum was based on the latest research and best practices in Home Economics education. It was designed to prepare students for the challenges of the 21st-century workforce. Professor Lemchi is a passionate advocate for education. She believes that education can play a vital role in developing the skills and knowledge that young people need to succeed in life. She is committed to ensuring that education is accessible and relevant to all students, especially the girl-child. Professor Lemchi has published over 76 articles in reputable journals (national and international) and book chapters. Her research interests include textiles and clothing, entrepreneurship/promotion of skills acquisition, curriculum development, and Home Economics Education policies.
